Turkmenistan and ILO Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Labour, Social Protection and Sustainable Development

Ashgabat, The Gul f Observer: An interdepartmental round table aimed at strengthening cooperation in the areas of labour, social protection and sustainable development was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on March 12, 2026, with the participation of representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The meeting brought together officials from relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, representatives of international organizations, and social partners to review ongoing collaboration and identify new opportunities for partnership.

During the discussions, participants focused on key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO, including the improvement of labour legislation, the promotion of decent work principles, and the implementation of joint programmes designed to enhance social policy and labour standards in the country.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova emphasized that Turkmenistan places great importance on strengthening its partnership with the ILO. She noted that the country consistently pursues state policies aimed at improving social protection, ensuring safe and fair working conditions, and expanding employment opportunities for its citizens.

Byashimova highlighted that cooperation with the ILO supports the introduction of advanced international practices and contributes to strengthening Turkmenistan’s national labour relations system.

The round table also reviewed the results of joint initiatives carried out in 2025, including projects promoting the principles of decent work, while outlining priority areas for cooperation in 2026.

Participants underscored Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to expand international engagement in the social and labour sectors, stressing the importance of experience-sharing and the development of broader partnership initiatives with the ILO.
