Turkmenistan, Canada Explore Expansion of Bilateral Relations

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A meeting took place today between Ahmet Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Christopher Duggan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan (with residence in Astana).
During the discussions, both sides expressed a mutual interest in further developing constructive bilateral cooperation. Emphasis was placed on the importance of maintaining regular political-diplomatic dialogue and the alignment of the two countries’ approaches to key issues on the international agenda.
The meeting highlighted priority areas for Turkmen-Canadian cooperation, including the enhancement of partnership in trade and economic sectors, as well as cultural and humanitarian collaboration.
Acknowledging the positive experience of engagement within international platforms, the interlocutors reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting each other’s initiatives within the framework of the United Nations.
To further strengthen bilateral ties, the parties discussed the prospect of holding inter-ministerial consultations between their foreign ministries during 2026. In this context, they also noted the importance of advancing the bilateral legal and contractual framework to support deeper cooperation.
