Turkmenistan Highlights Role of Neutrality in Global Peace at 51st OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting

Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: The delegation of Turkmenistan actively participated in the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on June 21–22 in Istanbul. The session gathered member states to discuss key political, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and scientific matters, with a focus on promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the OIC region.

In his address, the representative of Turkmenistan underscored the country’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation within the OIC framework and deepening effective partnerships with all member states. He emphasized that expanding collaboration within the Islamic world remains one of the principal directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy.

The Turkmen side highlighted a significant international milestone: the United Nations General Assembly, at Turkmenistan’s initiative, has declared 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.” This designation reflects broad international recognition of Turkmenistan’s consistent efforts to foster global peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.

A major outcome of the session was the unanimous adoption of a Turkmenistan-initiated resolution titled “On the Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development in the OIC Space and Around the World.” The resolution affirms that neutrality, as both a political and legal instrument, contributes to enhancing international and regional stability and plays a vital role in promoting peaceful, friendly, and mutually beneficial relations among nations.

The adoption of this resolution was widely viewed as a clear endorsement of Turkmenistan’s peace-oriented foreign policy, which is based on the principles of neutrality, dialogue, and cooperation.

On the sidelines of the session, Turkmenistan also organized a high-level round table discussion titled “Peace and Trust: Foundations of Unity and Stability in the Islamic World.” The event convened nearly 100 participants, including foreign ministers and high-level officials from OIC member states, representatives of international organizations, scholars, diplomats, and members of the media.

Participants praised Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality as an effective mechanism for conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and regional stability. They noted that the country’s consistent diplomatic efforts serve not only its national interests but also contribute meaningfully to the global agenda of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

The round table concluded with broad support for Turkmenistan’s approach to foreign policy, reaffirming the shared commitment of OIC members to the principles of mutual trust, unity, and constructive dialogue in addressing today’s global challenges.
