Turkmenistan Hosts Welcoming Ceremony for Delegates of Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

Avaza, The Gulf Observer: A grand welcoming ceremony for participants of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) was held on the picturesque coast of the Caspian Sea in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov; UN Secretary-General António Guterres; Chairman of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Young; high-ranking delegates from participating countries, heads of international organizations, and senior officials of Turkmenistan.

In his address, Chairman Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed the Secretary-General, heads of delegations, and all attendees to the “sunny and hospitable land of Turkmenistan.” He described the moment as a historic event taking place in one of the most beautiful corners of the region, the Avaza National Tourist Zone, and expressed deep appreciation for the broad international representation at the forum.

He highlighted the significance of the conference coinciding with the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the United Nations at Turkmenistan’s initiative. Emphasizing the importance of solidarity in the international system, he expressed confidence that collective efforts toward peace, security, and sustainable development would bear meaningful results.

Chairman Berdimuhamedov underscored the relevance and timeliness of the forum, stating that it serves as a platform for effective dialogue and positive proposals on a wide range of developmental issues. Switching to Russian, one of the official UN languages, he conveyed his gratitude to all participants for their presence, affirming that Turkmenistan views such strong attendance as a sign of international trust and respect for the country’s role on the global stage.

“We welcome all of you, esteemed participants of the Forum, on Turkmen soil as dear and welcome guests, like-minded people and partners of Turkmenistan, united by the high goals of peace, progress and prosperity on the planet,” he said.

“Welcome to Turkmenistan!” he concluded, warmly inviting the international community to continue its engagement in the shared pursuit of global development.

The welcoming ceremony marked the beginning of a pivotal high-level forum, dedicated to advancing the interests of landlocked developing countries by promoting regional cooperation, connectivity, and inclusion in the global economic order. The conference is expected to yield concrete strategies and foster stronger multilateral partnerships.
