Turkmenistan Joins COP29 Climate Summit in Baku
Baku, The Gulf Observer: A delegation from Turkmenistan is participating in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which opened on November 11 in Baku and will continue through November 22. The conference, which has attracted approximately 70,000 international guests from nearly 200 countries, aims to tackle pressing issues on the global climate agenda, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
The summit kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Baku Olympic Stadium, followed by a two-day Summit of World Leaders on Climate Action. Around 80 heads of state and government are set to present their strategic approaches to addressing climate change.
COP29 is divided into two main sections: the Blue Zone, dedicated to official negotiations and high-level decision-making, and the Green Zone, which hosts exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. The conference agenda highlights regional issues, such as water resource management and the expansion of renewable energy, which hold particular relevance for Central Asian countries like Turkmenistan.
Since its inception in 1995, the Conference of the Parties has been a central forum for assessing international efforts in combating climate change. The 2015 Paris Agreement remains a landmark achievement, endorsed by 195 nations, including Turkmenistan, which continues to support international climate goals and sustainable development.
