Turkmenistan Participates in the 43rd Session of UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: A delegation headed by the Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan, Atageldi Shamyradov, is participating in the 43rd session of the General Conference of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), taking place in the historic city of Samarkand from October 30 to November 13, 2025.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, Chary Rustamova; the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the French Republic and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Maksat Charyev; and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shadurdy Meredov.

According to the agenda, the session is addressing key global issues such as empowering youth, strengthening peace and social unity, integrating cultures in the digital age, promoting sustainable tourism, and preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Discussions also focus on enhancing cooperation and the exchange of experience among national commissions for UNESCO.

During the conference, Minister Shamyradov delivered a speech highlighting the main priorities of Turkmenistan’s National Commission for UNESCO and the importance of international collaboration in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He underscored that Turkmenistan’s active engagement in UNESCO’s initiatives plays a vital role in strengthening mutual understanding among nations and advancing shared objectives in education, science, culture, and communication.

The participation of Turkmenistan in the General Conference reaffirms the country’s commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue, peace, and sustainable development through constructive partnerships within the UNESCO framework.
