Two Dry-Cargo Ships

Turkmenistan’s Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) together with the Ak Bars corporation from Tatarstan intends to build two dry-cargo ships, TASS news agency reported with reference to a statement made by Mammetkhan Chakiyev, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, at the Turkmen-Russian business forum on Thursday.

“A joint memorandum was signed between our Balkan shipyard and Ak Bars Corporation on the construction of two dry-cargo vessels. At present the procedures for drawing up a contract and launching this project are in progress”, – Chakiyev said.

During the plenary session of the forum, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov stated that the country is also ready to consider proposals to place orders for the construction of vessels for its merchant fleet at Russian shipyards.

“We have accumulated quite a solid experience in this matter,” Meredov added.

Turkmen-Russian business forum is held in Ashgabat on January 19-20. Its participants discuss cooperation in industy, construction, information technology, digitalization, transport and logistics complex, education and other areas. The plenary session of the forum was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
