Turkmenistan to Modernize Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi Railway to Boost Transit and Logistics Capacity

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan has announced plans to modernize the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway line, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mammethan Chakyyev said during a government meeting on Friday.
According to Turkmenistan’s official media, Chakyyev briefed the meeting on measures being implemented by relevant agencies to further develop the country’s transport and logistics system, strengthen its transit potential, and enhance Turkmenistan’s role in international transport corridors.
The Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway holds strategic importance for the country’s socio-economic development, as it connects Turkmenistan’s regions with the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. The line plays a key role in integrating the national railway network with major international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, as well as the North–South and East–West routes. In this regard, comprehensive modernization of the railway line has been identified as a priority.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedow noted the effective progress made in developing Turkmenistan’s transport and logistics infrastructure and in expanding its transit capacity. Emphasizing the strategic significance of the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway for the country’s socio-economic development, the head of state approved the proposed modernization plan and instructed Mammethan Chakyyev to organize the necessary work.
The government meeting also reviewed a number of other important state issues, with relevant decisions adopted accordingly.
