Turkmenistan, UNICEF Deepen Cooperation to Support Children in Need

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On January 24, 2026, Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice President for Medical Activities of the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a meeting with Jalpa Ratna, Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan, to discuss ways to further strengthen long-standing cooperation in the interests of the country’s young citizens.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized that ensuring the well-being and health of children is a priority area of state policy, implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and guided by the efforts of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero-Arkadag.

Special attention was given to the activities of the Charity Fund, which continues to provide highly qualified medical care and social support to children in need of guardianship. The UNICEF representative praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives in maternal and child health, noting that they align with the global Sustainable Development Goals and expressing interest in deepening cooperation with the Fund. Turkmenistan’s achievements in this field have garnered wide international recognition.

A key topic of discussion was the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNICEF in Turkmenistan and the Charity Fund, which opens new avenues for coordinated joint actions aimed at creating the most favorable conditions for a happy and healthy life for children.

The meeting also addressed the planning and implementation of joint projects, with both sides confirming their commitment to continuing close dialogue on a broad range of humanitarian initiatives. The UNICEF representative highlighted Turkmenistan’s responsible approach to fulfilling international obligations in child rights protection, recognizing the Charity Fund as a vital instrument for the practical implementation of state guarantees.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both Oguljahan Atabayeva and Jalpa Ratna expressed confidence in the further development of their partnership, reaffirming their commitment to advancing programs for the welfare of children in Turkmenistan.
