Indonesia Independence Day

Washington, D.C. The Gulf Observer: The United States extended its heartfelt congratulations to the people of Indonesia on the occasion of their Independence Day. As the two nations celebrate 75 years of bilateral relations, the U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to shared goals of promoting democracy, respect for the rule of law, and fostering a strong friendship between the two peoples.

In a statement, the U.S. highlighted the historic elevation of U.S.-Indonesia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last November, marked by a joint effort from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and U.S. President Joe Biden. This partnership signifies a new phase in the collaboration between the two countries, aimed at addressing key global challenges.

The U.S. also congratulated Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, on his election as the next president of Indonesia, expressing a strong desire to work together on critical issues of mutual concern. These include promoting peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region, tackling the climate crisis, advancing the clean energy transition, fostering sustainable development, upholding human rights protections, and supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation.

The statement emphasized the continued partnership between the United States and Indonesia, both bilaterally and through their engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in promoting stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.

On this Independence Day, the United States extended its best wishes to the Indonesian people, celebrating their nation’s progress and the enduring friendship between the two countries.
