UAE and China Strengthen Media Cooperation in High-Level Meeting

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, met with ZHU Yonglei, Vice Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration of the People’s Republic of China (NRTA), to discuss enhancing cooperation mechanisms and sharing expertise across various media sectors.

During Yonglei’s visit to the NMO headquarters in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Abdulla emphasized the UAE’s aspiration to bolster media coordination and cooperation with China, reflecting the deepening relationship between the two nations. “This relationship, characterized by diversity and depth, is driven by a strong political will reflected in mutual visits between the leadership of the two countries and their commitment to deepening relations, cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of visions,” said Sheikh Abdulla.

The meeting, part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and China, aimed to promote sustainable development and prosperity. Both parties discussed cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in the media sector, as well as keeping up with the latest media technology and global changes.

Sheikh Abdulla commended the existing media cooperation and expressed his eagerness to expand it for mutual benefit. The officials explored exchanging experiences in different media fields, improving communication between media organizations, creating collaborative media projects and initiatives, and identifying new opportunities to elevate the media industry in both countries.

The meeting was attended by Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Director-General of the NMO, and Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council. Both sides emphasized the importance of consolidating partnerships between media institutions to support shared media goals and enhance cooperation.

Sheikh Abdulla welcomed the delegation and discussed the upcoming visit of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to China on May 30th, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. The strong bilateral relations, witnessing continuous growth, are driven by the leadership’s commitment to elevating cooperation across various sectors, including economic, media, political, cultural, and scientific domains.

Sheikh Abdulla highlighted UAE laws in the media sector that promote and motivate national talent to create content reflecting national values and identity, aligning with the wise leadership’s guidance to advance the media industry. He noted that the UAE is a leading global media hub, offering a robust platform and infrastructure for international media entities, fostering creativity and collaboration.

“In our media community, there are over 10,000 companies and more than 350,000 professionals involved in cultural and creative industries,” concluded Sheikh Abdulla.

The meeting underscored the mutual desire to establish a distinguished model of cooperation and media partnership that would contribute to enriching the media landscape in both countries.
