UAE Concludes International Training Programme on Women’s Empowerment in Cybersecurity
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The General Women’s Union (GWU), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the UAE Cybersecurity Council, successfully concluded a two-day international training programme on Wednesday, aimed at empowering women in cybersecurity governance and diplomacy. The programme, held at the GWU’s headquarters, was conducted under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, who serves as the Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).
Titled the “International Programme for Training Women Trainers in the Arab Region and the World,” the initiative brought together women participants from 22 countries across the Arab region and beyond. It focused on enhancing the skills of female policymakers in cybersecurity, professionals engaged in peace and security initiatives, and women in technical fields aiming to transition into strategic roles within cybersecurity policy and cyber diplomacy.
Through a blend of theoretical and practical training, the programme provided participants with the essential tools and knowledge to become leaders and trainers in national cybersecurity governance. The sessions covered a wide range of critical topics, including the current landscape of cybersecurity threats, the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI), and strategies for national resilience that encompass legal, regulatory, and technical considerations.
Additionally, participants explored how to develop national cybersecurity strategies, engage key stakeholders, and navigate the international arena of cyber diplomacy. The programme also delved into ongoing United Nations discussions on cybersecurity and reviewed global standards for state conduct in cyberspace.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the GWU, highlighted the UAE’s leading role in cybersecurity at both the regional and global levels. She emphasized the importance of empowering women in technology and policy as key to building a secure digital environment that protects the nation’s achievements. Al Suwaidi credited the progress in this field to the UAE’s visionary leadership and the continuous support of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cybersecurity Council, commended the success of the programme, calling it a significant milestone in the mission to empower women in cybersecurity. He extended his gratitude to H.H. Sheikha Fatima for her unwavering support and emphasized that her guidance remains instrumental in driving advancements in the field.
