UAE Minister of Climate Change Champions Collaborative Climate Action at COP29
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, engaged in a series of high-level discussions at COP29 in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to multilateral climate action through collaboration and inclusivity. Her participation underscored the UAE’s climate agenda for 2025, which seeks to advance cooperation globally, leading up to COP30 in Brazil.
Dr. Al Dahak delivered the opening address at the High-Level Plenary Event, Delivering on Climate Action Through Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation, where she highlighted the UAE’s leadership role in leveraging agriculture to mitigate climate change and maintain the global temperature rise within 1.5 degrees Celsius. She called on nations to deepen collaborative efforts, stating, “As we embark on COP29 and look ahead to COP30, it is vital we continue the momentum established at COP28 and collaborate at scale.”
Dr. Al Dahak further joined COP29 President, H.E. Mukhtar Babayev, and other international representatives at a United Nations event, Baku to Belem and Beyond, focused on the role of cities in the Paris Agreement. Here, she shared updates on the COP28 Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships for Climate Action (CHAMP), a pledge supported by 74 nations aimed at enhancing multilevel climate cooperation.
In a strategic push for agricultural innovation, Dr. Al Dahak launched AIM for Scale’s first Innovation Package: A Blueprint for Collective Action at the Global Partnership to Scale-up Weather Services for Farmers event. This initiative supports the dissemination of advanced, climate-friendly weather forecasting tools to farmers globally.
She also addressed the COP29 High-Level Special Event on water security, discussing the UAE’s co-sponsorship of the upcoming UN Water Conference in 2026. Partnering with Senegal, the UAE aims to drive the Water Action Agenda to enhance global water security and accessibility.
In a youth-focused session, IRENA Youth Circle: Intergenerational Action for Tripling Renewable Energy by 2030, Dr. Al Dahak engaged with young leaders to discuss education’s role in preparing future renewable energy pioneers.
