UAE President and Biden Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership at White House
Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), highlighted the “power of partnerships” during talks with US President Joe Biden at the White House Monday. The meeting underscored the depth of the strategic relationship between the UAE and the United States, with both leaders expressing their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering dedication to its partnership with the US, emphasizing the importance of building bridges with nations that share common values and ambitions for a brighter future. He praised the strong foundations of mutual trust, respect, and shared interests that define the longstanding alliance between the two countries.
During their discussions, the two presidents reviewed key aspects of UAE-US relations, particularly in trade and investment, advanced technology, space, renewable energy, climate action, sustainability, and food security. Both leaders expressed their eagerness to expand collaboration in these areas to advance their shared goals of global prosperity and stability.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the evolution of UAE-US ties by recalling a 1974 meeting between the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and a NASA team discussing the Apollo program. Today, the UAE partners with NASA on the Gateway mission, the first lunar space station, illustrating the significant progress in bilateral cooperation over the past five decades.
The two leaders also addressed pressing regional and international issues, particularly developments in the Middle East and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Sheikh Mohamed commended President Biden’s leadership and the joint efforts of the US, Egypt, and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid in the region. Both leaders reiterated the importance of maintaining these efforts to prevent further escalation and support a political process for a lasting, just peace based on the two-state solution.
His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the US in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East and beyond. He emphasized the UAE’s longstanding approach to fostering regional and global stability through collective international action.
On arriving at the White House, Sheikh Mohamed penned a note in the guestbook, expressing his pleasure at meeting President Biden and reaffirming the UAE’s desire to build on the strong strategic relationship between the two nations. He conveyed his best wishes for continued success and prosperity for the United States and its people.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser; H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Khaldoun Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; and Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US.
The talks between Sheikh Mohamed and President Biden underscored the enduring strategic alliance between the UAE and the United States, focused on mutual cooperation and shared aspirations for global peace and development.
