UAE Successfully Mediates New Captive Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully mediated another exchange of captives between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, leading to the release of 190 individuals, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced. This latest exchange brings the total number of captives exchanged through UAE mediation to 2,184.
In its statement, the MoFA expressed gratitude to both nations for their cooperation and willingness to engage in the UAE’s mediation efforts, which played a critical role in facilitating the prisoner release despite the challenges of the ongoing conflict.
The success of this mediation highlights the trust placed in the UAE by both Russia and Ukraine, recognizing its commitment to promoting diplomatic solutions to the crisis. The ministry also noted that the ninth successful mediation since the beginning of 2024 reflects the strong and friendly relations the UAE maintains with both countries.
The UAE reiterated its ongoing commitment to pursuing peaceful resolutions and encouraging dialogue and de-escalation between the warring parties. Additionally, the nation emphasized its dedication to supporting humanitarian initiatives aimed at alleviating the impact of the conflict, particularly concerning refugees and captives.
Since the beginning of the year, the UAE’s efforts have resulted in eight successful captive exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. In December 2022, the UAE also played a crucial role in mediating a prisoner exchange between the United States and the Russian Federation.
These diplomatic achievements further cement the UAE’s role as a key mediator in international conflicts, focusing on humanitarian issues and conflict resolution.
