UN Security Council Welcomes DRC-Rwanda Peace Agreement Signed in Washington

New York, The Gulf Observer: The United Nations Security Council has officially welcomed the peace agreement signed between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda on June 27 in Washington, D.C., marking a significant step toward resolving longstanding tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
In an official statement, the Security Council members expressed strong support for the accord and extended their deep appreciation to the United States, Qatar, and the African Union for their critical roles in facilitating the dialogue and bringing both parties to the negotiating table.
The Council urged both nations to fully honour their commitments under the peace agreement, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2773, which outlines the framework for regional cooperation, demilitarization, and the protection of civilians.
Reaffirming their role in promoting international peace and security, the Council members also pledged to actively support the implementation and follow-up mechanisms of the agreement, emphasizing the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and regional stability.
The DRC-Rwanda agreement has been welcomed globally as a breakthrough in easing regional tensions and ending recurring cycles of violence in the Great Lakes region.
