UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development: International Jury Prepares for Eighth Edition
Paris, The Gulf Observer: The International Jury of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development convened at UNESCO headquarters in Paris over the past two days to finalize preparations for the launch of the prize’s eighth edition and to review the latest nominations.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Ali Abdullah Alhaj Al Ali, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to UNESCO, reiterated the UAE’s steadfast support for UNESCO’s educational initiatives. “The UAE considers education to be a cornerstone of sustainable development and social progress. Therefore, we are committed to supporting all initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education around the world,” he stated.
Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary General of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance, emphasized the prize’s mission to bolster the performance and effectiveness of teachers globally. “The Prize aims to support, encourage, and enhance the performance and effectiveness of teachers in order to achieve the goals of education for all. It seeks to recognize teachers who demonstrate excellence in their teaching practices, which contributes to raising the level of education worldwide,” he explained.
Established in 2008, the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development is dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning as part of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, a key priority for UNESCO. The prize, awarded biennially, is generously funded by the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance (Hamdan Foundation).
The prize amount of $300,000 is equally distributed among three winners whose projects aim to improve the performance and effectiveness of teachers on a global scale. The winners are selected by an International Jury consisting of five esteemed professionals renowned for their extensive knowledge and experience in teacher-related issues.
The eighth edition of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development promises to continue its legacy of recognizing and rewarding excellence in teaching, thereby contributing to the global effort of advancing educational standards.
