Uzbek FM meets with the ECO Secretary General

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov Sunday met with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Khusrav Noziri, who arrived in our country to participate in the 26th meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers.

During the conversation, the current state and prospects of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ECO were discussed. An exchange of views took place on the development of regional cooperation within the framework of the ECO and the enhancement of its authority on the world stage.

Noziri noted the active and energetic chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the Organization in 2022, which, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was declared: “The Year of Strengthening Interconnection in the ECO”. The conviction was expressed that the comprehensive implementation of the initiatives of the Leader of Uzbekistan, announced during the Ashgabat ECO summit, would give a powerful impetus to the Organization’s activities and become a new “growth point”.

The importance of the events held under the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the meeting of the Regional Planning Council, meetings of the heads of ministries of agriculture and tourism, meetings on renewable energy sources, etc., was emphasized. The Secretary General also congratulated the Uzbek side on the election of the ancient city of Shakhrisabz as the tourist capital of the Organization in 2024 year.

The parties expressed a unanimous opinion on the need to more effectively use the potential of interaction within the framework of the ECO, especially in the areas of trade, investment, transport and communications, and energy, in order to achieve the goals set out in the “Prospects for ECO 2025”.

The organizational and substantive aspects of the upcoming meeting of the ECO Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, as well as other events held under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan, were discussed.
