Uzbek President delivers congratulatory speech on International Women's Day

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: The International Congress Center hosted a festive event on the occasion of March 8 – International Women’s Day. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the event and delivered a congratulatory speech.

“Today, each of us, with a feeling of deep gratitude, speaks inspired words to lovely women, who are the greatest creation of the Almighty – our caring mothers, dear sisters, dear daughters. For us, first of all, you are the embodiment of selflessness. We consider ourselves indebted to you, your kindness and devotion, love and deep wisdom”, the Head of state said.

Indeed, women have a special place in all spheres of society. At present, women make up 77 percent of those employed in the healthcare sector, 74 percent in education, and 46 percent in the economic and industrial sectors. About 2,000 women hold leadership positions in state and public organizations.

If in 2017, 27 percent of women worked in management, now this figure has reached 33 percent, in the ranks of political parties their number has increased from 40 to 47 percent, and in entrepreneurship – from 21 to 37 percent.

Seventeen women were awarded the highest state award – the title of Hero of Uzbekistan for great services to the Motherland and people. Among the women of the country, there are 5 academicians, more than 700 doctors of sciences, and about 3 thousand candidates of sciences only in higher education institutions, many women were awarded honorary titles.

In Uzbekistan, priority is given to improving the living and working conditions of women. More than 872,000 women were employed last year. More than 250,000 have learned professions and entrepreneurial skills that are in demand in the labor market.

Last year, the living conditions of about 14,000 women were improved, and practical assistance was provided to about 642,000 women within the framework of the “Women’s Notebook” system.

Talking about the issue of providing girls with quality education, the President cited the words of the outstanding educator Abdurauf Fitrat – “The merit of mothers in educating all mankind is invaluable”.

In recent years, consistent work has been carried out to expand women’s access to higher education. If six years ago 110,000 girls studied at universities, now their number has reached about 500,000.

By the new procedure, more than 10,000 girls who entered the magistracy were paid by the state for education contracts – a total of over 68 billion UZS. More than 65,000 female students were provided with interest-free educational loans for almost 727 billion UZS. About 2,000 girls from families in need, as well as over 500 women with a five-year work experience in their specialty, entered universities based on a separate quota.

“No matter what laws and decisions we adopt in Uzbekistan, no matter what reforms we carry out, as the Head of state, I, first of all, think about you, our kind mothers, caring sisters, about the issues that concern you. Service for the sake of you living with your family in peace and prosperity, being healthy and happy, and actively participating in public life – I consider it my most important duty and task. After all, if our respected mothers, women – the backbone of the family and society, are satisfied with their lives, then all our people will be satisfied, and the Almighty will bless us”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

According to the decree and resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of March 6 this year, a group of women was awarded honorary titles, orders and medals, and twenty-eight girls were awarded the Zulfiya State Prize.

The solemn presentation of these awards took place at the festive event.
