New York, The Gulf Observer: The Republic of Uzbekistan and the State of Eritrea have formally established diplomatic relations through the signing of a Joint Communiqué in New York. The signing ceremony was held at the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the United Nations.

The document was signed by Ulugbek Lapasov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, and Sophia Tesfamariam, Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN.

In the communiqué, both sides affirmed their mutual interest in fostering cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations and its specialized agencies. They agreed to intensify bilateral engagements aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in political, trade-economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.

The establishment of diplomatic ties with Eritrea marks a significant step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen its presence and partnerships across the African continent. Eritrea is now the 162nd country with which Uzbekistan has formal diplomatic relations.

The move reflects Uzbekistan’s broader foreign policy objectives of promoting global dialogue, expanding international cooperation, and diversifying its diplomatic partnerships worldwide.
