Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Discuss Strengthening Strategic Ties
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, who visited Uzbekistan as part of the latest round of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan political consultations.
During the meeting, Minister Meredov conveyed heartfelt greetings and best wishes from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The discussions emphasized the commitment to enhancing friendship, good neighborliness, and the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Notable achievements were highlighted, including the dynamic growth in bilateral trade, which exceeded $1.1 billion in 2024. Both sides are actively working to establish the Shavat–Dashoguz cross-border trade zone and are collaborating closely in sectors such as industrial cooperation, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, and water management. Interregional ties and cultural and humanitarian exchanges continue to flourish.
Minister Meredov expressed deep appreciation on behalf of Turkmenistan’s leadership for Uzbekistan’s hosting of the presentation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s new book, Hakyda Göwheri (The Pearl of Wisdom), published in Uzbek and showcased in Tashkent.
The meeting also focused on shaping an expansive agenda for the multifaceted partnership between the two nations and preparing for upcoming high-level visits, including the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region and summits under the “Central Asia Plus” format.
The leaders exchanged views on key international policy issues, underscoring the shared commitment to fostering regional cooperation and mutual understanding.
