Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Leaders Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Interaction

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The discussion centered on key issues concerning bilateral cooperation and regional interaction.

At the outset of the conversation, the leaders exchanged warm congratulations on the upcoming spring holiday of Navruz, extending heartfelt wishes for good health, well-being, and success. They also conveyed hopes for peace and prosperity to the brotherly peoples of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Both sides expressed deep satisfaction with the steady advancement of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, founded on the principles of friendship, trust, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership.

In 2024, the mutual trade turnover between the two countries surpassed $1 billion, reflecting robust economic ties. Collaboration continues to strengthen across various sectors, including industry, energy, transport, agriculture, and water management. The establishment of a joint border trade zone, “Shavat – Dashoguz,” marks a significant step toward enhancing cross-border economic activity. Additionally, interregional contacts and cultural and humanitarian exchanges are actively being implemented.

The leaders also addressed regional cooperation and the preparation for key international forums and conferences. A detailed exchange of views took place regarding the upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format in Samarkand and the next Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region in Tashkent.

President Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of the Forum scheduled for December in Ashgabat, which will be organized within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. This initiative, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly at Turkmenistan’s proposal, is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening regional and global cooperation.

The conversation reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to furthering their strategic partnership and fostering comprehensive collaboration in the interest of regional stability and economic development.
