Uzbekistan Announces Candidacy for Non-Permanent Seat on UN Security Council (2035–2036)

New York, The Gulf Observer: Uzbekistan has officially submitted its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2035–2036 term.
The country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, made the announcement while addressing a UN Security Council session focused on multilateralism and global governance reforms. The session was chaired by China, according to Dunyo news agency.
During his speech, Lapasov highlighted Uzbekistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and briefed the participants on the nation’s ongoing reforms. He also emphasized regional cooperation, particularly Afghanistan’s economic recovery, and reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s readiness to work closely with the UN to combat transnational threats such as drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.
Uzbekistan also invited UN member states to the UN Public Service Forum, scheduled to take place in Samarkand in June 2025 under the theme: “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future.”
In his concluding remarks, Lapasov reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s strong commitment to global peace and security, underscoring the country’s ambition to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2035–2036 term.
