Uzbekistan has results that serve as an example for other countries
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva held an online dialogue with the Assistant Secretary General of the UN, the Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS of the UN Development Program Ivana Živković.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and specialized UN agencies, particularly the Development Program.
Views were exchanged on enhancing cooperation on the gender issue, in particular on providing women with more significant economic opportunities, implementing joint projects within the framework of the Development Program to increase the capacity of local councils, taking into account the new constitutional role of the Senate.
“We highly appreciate the participation of UNDP in promoting regional and global initiatives of Uzbekistan in the international arena, as well as actions to support women and achieve gender equality in our country”, Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva said. – We have a lot of work to do to improve the fundamentals of legislation, develop a practical methodology and implement new measures for gender equality. We are ready to develop cooperation in these areas.
“Uzbekistan is our important strategic partner”, Ms. Ivana Živković said. – We have been working with your country for 30 years. I am aware of the results achieved in Uzbekistan in the fight against violence against women and children, and I fully support your actions in this direction. Regarding long-term plans for cooperation, I can say that we will continue the practical dialogue for implementing national gender equality projects. On the issue of achieving Sustainable Development Goals, I can note that Uzbekistan has results that serve as an example for other countries, and we will use every opportunity to further expand the projects carried out jointly with your country.
Following the dialogue, the parties agreed to enhance cooperation projects, considering the areas discussed during the conversation.
