Uzbekistan plans to enter ports of Indian Ocean through Afghanistan and Pakistan
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Uzbekistan delegation led by the Minister of Transport Ilkhom Mahkamov and Special Representative of the President for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev visited Afghanistan on August 26-27.
According to the Ministry of Transport, during the bilateral talks, the parties discussed the formation of an international transport corridor for access through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the ports of the Indian Ocean, strengthening cooperation between transport logistics enterprises of the two states, creating favorable conditions for international road carriers, including lifting restrictions on transit through the territory Afghanistan and transportation of goods to other destinations.
During the visit, an expedition took place along the automobile route “Uzbekistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan” with the Acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan, Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada.
As part of the expedition, the situation was studied at the Uzbekistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan automobile corridor, the Salang pass connecting Kabul with Northern Afghanistan (Mazar-i-Sharif), and the Torkham border checkpoint on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to mobilize all opportunities for developing transit freight traffic between the two countries.
