Uzbekistan Strengthens Oil and Gas Sector to Stabilize Production and Expand Reserves

Uzbekistan

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been briefed on ongoing efforts in Uzbekistan’s oil and gas sector aimed at stabilizing production volumes and developing new reserves.

The update focused on natural gas production trends within the Uzbekneftegaz system, highlighting factors behind recent declines and measures being implemented to address them.

Officials reported that in the first quarter of the year, additional gas volumes were secured through the commissioning of new wells, repairs to existing infrastructure and the application of advanced technological solutions. These efforts are set to be expanded further throughout the year.

Particular emphasis is being placed on the integration of modern technologies to enhance well efficiency, alongside the identification of new areas for 2D and 3D seismic exploration.

To strengthen operational control in line with international standards, plans are underway to introduce enhanced supervision systems, conduct geological and hydrodynamic modeling, and develop more detailed production programs.

The briefing also addressed strategies to increase gas recovery rates at existing fields, adopt innovative approaches for hard-to-recover reserves and assess the economic viability of projects planned for 2026–2027. These initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with international energy companies.

President Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of ensuring production stability, maximizing the efficient use of existing capacities and systematically organizing exploration and drilling activities.

He also called for expanded partnerships with foreign companies to achieve tangible outcomes and directed relevant authorities to maintain strict oversight of all planned measures to ensure effective implementation and measurable results.
