Uzbekistan Unveils "Okhalik - Okbuiro - Mironkul" Tourist Zone in Samarkand Region

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: In a significant development aimed at boosting tourism and economic growth, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has signed a resolution outlining measures to establish the “Okhalik – Okbuiro – Mironkul” tourist and recreational zone in the Samarkand region.

Under the resolution, President Mirziyoyev directed the allocation of land for the implementation of this transformative project. Specifically, 1.6 thousand hectares will be designated for the Okhalik project, 414 hectares for Okbuiro, and 2.5 thousand hectares for Mironkul.

To oversee the management and development of these zones, a directorate for the tourist and recreational zone “Okhalik – Okbuiro – Mironkul” will be established under the khokimiyat of the Samarkand region.

The duration of the tourist zone has been set at 30 years with the provision for extension. This extended timeframe underscores the commitment to sustainable development and long-term economic benefits for the region.

By August 1, 2024, a comprehensive master plan and layout for the resort will be developed, encompassing various components such as campsites and walking areas. This strategic initiative aims to create a world-class tourist destination that caters to diverse preferences and interests.

In addition to conventional tourism, the project places a significant emphasis on the development of mountain tourism and extreme recreation, reflecting the commitment to providing unique and thrilling experiences for visitors.

President Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the establishment of the “Okhalik – Okbuiro – Mironkul” tourist and recreational zone will not only attract international tourists but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the Samarkand region.

The announcement signals Uzbekistan’s commitment to harnessing its rich cultural and natural heritage to position itself as a premier tourist destination on the global stage.
