Forum on information security of SCO starts in Tashkent.

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: The scientific and expert forum on information security of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) began its work in the Tashkent today.

The organizers of the forum are the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies (ISMI) under the head of our state, the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies of Uzbekistan and Communications together with the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO.

The dialogue on information security issues is also taking place in a hybrid format with online connection of foreign participants.

More than 30 leading experts from among the representatives of relevant ministries and departments, scientific, academic and analytical circles of the SCO member states are participating in the forum.

It should be noted that the initiative to hold this conference was put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Dushanbe SCO summit on 17 September 2021.

Director of ISMI Eldor Aripov, during the SCO scientific and expert forum on information security, held on 6 September in Tashkent, noted the work done in our country aimed at developing the digital society, as well as countering the threats of cyberspace.

As the representative of the ISMI noted, the Plan of Practical Actions to Improve the Cybersecurity System of the Republic of Uzbekistan was approved. As part of this Plan, the Law “On Cybersecurity” was adopted, which became the main document regulating relations in this area.

It was emphasized that the main purpose of the law was to protect the interests of the individual, society and the state from external and internal threats in cyberspace.

“In order to further strengthen regional cooperation in this area, the President of Uzbekistan proposed holding the first SCO expert forum on information security,” the expert stated.

This initiative provides an opportunity to create a scientific and expert platform for the exchange of views on the latest trends and achievements in the field of digitalization, best national practices in countering information and cyber security threats.

“I am convinced that on the basis of a direct and open dialogue, we will be able to develop specific proposals and practical recommendations for the formation of a coordinated policy to counter threats and challenges in the field of information security in the SCO space,” concluded Eldor Aripov.

The agenda of the forum is divided into three thematic sessions:

“Expanding access to information is an important factor in the development of modern society.”

“Information and ideological threats and the development of effective response measures.”

“Protection of objects of critical information infrastructure in the conditions of dynamic development of ICT.”

In general, the organized event will strengthen regional cooperation and increase the potential of the SCO member states in countering threats in the information and cyberspace.
