Vice President Gibran Calls for Vigilance Ahead of Christmas Celebrations

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka urged Indonesian Christians to promptly report any disruptions or hindrances to their Christmas celebrations next week to relevant authorities.

The Vice President made the statement during a meeting with the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (KWI) executives and the newly inaugurated leadership of the Indonesian Catholic Youth organization for the 2024-2027 period on Tuesday (Dec 17).

“If anyone experiences any interference while performing the Christmas Mass or celebrations, please report it immediately to the police, the military, the local authority, or directly to me via WhatsApp or a direct call,” Raka emphasized.

The Vice President reaffirmed President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to ensuring smooth, safe, and joyous Christmas and New Year celebrations for all Indonesians. Raka pledged his full support for the president’s stance, underlining his dedication to maintaining security and harmony during the holiday season.

“My commitment to ensuring a safe and smooth Christmas remains the same as it was during my tenure as Mayor of Surakarta from 2021 to 2024,” he stated. Reflecting on his time as mayor, Raka noted the significant challenges he faced but highlighted the successful organization of Christmas festivities, including the installation of Christmas trees and decorations in public spaces.

Raka also emphasized Indonesia’s rich diversity, which he described as a blessing that must be cherished and safeguarded by all citizens.

“Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) is a noble heritage from our nation’s founders that must be preserved, maintained, and strengthened,” he declared.

In his remarks, the Vice President also highlighted Pope Francis’s message during his September visit to Indonesia, encouraging the nation to grow in faith, brotherhood, and affection.

The meeting underscored the government’s resolve to uphold the values of tolerance and inclusivity, ensuring a harmonious and joyous festive season for all Indonesians.
