Vietnam and China Conduct Joint Border Patrol

Điện Biên, The Gulf Observer: In a collaborative effort to maintain border security and uphold bilateral agreements, border guards stationed in Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Điện Biên and their counterparts in Mengzhi region, China’s Yunnan province, recently conducted a joint patrol along the shared border line on March 30.

During the patrol, spanning from Marker No. 1 to Marker No. 3 along the border, both Vietnamese and Chinese border guards confirmed the integrity of national border markers and ensured the safety and security of the border region. Furthermore, it was observed that residents residing on both sides of the border were in compliance with the legal documents regarding land borders signed between the two countries.

In addition to affirming the integrity of border markers and the adherence to legal agreements, the border guard forces engaged in the exchange of vital information concerning border security situations, fostering greater cooperation and coordination between the two nations in safeguarding their shared border.

This joint border patrol initiative is conducted in accordance with a cooperation agreement between the defense ministries of Vietnam and China, which was established on November 12, 2017. The ongoing collaboration serves to strengthen cooperation in border management and protection, contributing to the preservation of peace and stability along the shared border.

The border between Vietnam and China spans approximately 1,450 kilometers, comprising 1,065.6 kilometers on land and 383.9 kilometers over water. Crossing seven Vietnamese provinces – Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Lào Cai, Hà Giang, Cao Bằng, Lạng Sơn, and Quảng Ninh – and China’s Yunnan province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the border holds strategic significance for both nations, making joint efforts in border security and management imperative for regional stability and prosperity.
