Vietnam and Laos Strengthen Bilateral Ties During ASEAN Summits
Vientiane, The Gulf Observer: On October 11, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính of Vietnam held a meeting with Bounthong Chitmany, the permanent member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Secretariat and Vice President of Laos, during the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings in Vientiane.
In his address, PM Chính congratulated Laos on its successful assumption of the ASEAN Chair for 2024 and the effective hosting of the summits. He emphasized the importance of educating future generations about the profound relations between the Communist Parties and peoples of Vietnam and Laos. He described this bond as an invaluable asset that has supported both nations in their struggles for independence and in their ongoing national development efforts, including building independent, self-reliant economies integrated into the global community.
Highlighting the outcomes of the September meeting between the two Politburos, PM Chính proposed that both countries enhance their exchange of experiences, particularly in human resources training, as they prepare for Party Congresses at all levels leading up to the National Party Congress.
Vice President Chitmany expressed deep gratitude for Vietnam’s timely and effective support, which has played a crucial role in Laos’ liberation and current development, especially as it undertakes its responsibilities as ASEAN Chair in 2024.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the robust cooperation between the two Parties and States across various sectors, particularly in politics, economy, trade, national defense and security, Party building, and personnel training.
In light of the complex global and regional situations, they agreed to continue coordinating on high-level agreements and sharing experiences in policymaking and national development, focusing on key projects that will deepen their practical and effective partnership.
