Vietnam and Russia Strengthen Sports Cooperation with New MoU

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: In a significant step towards bolstering international sports collaboration, the Visiting Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng and Russian Minister of Sport Mikhail Vladimirovich Degtyarev signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in sports during their recent meeting in Moscow.

The Thursday session saw the ministers acknowledging the robust growth of their collaboration, rooted in the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia. The MOU outlines the establishment of a working group on bilateral sports cooperation, which will be headed by Vietnamese and Russian deputy ministers. This group will include representatives from specialized agencies and will convene annual meetings on a rotating basis to foster ongoing dialogue and initiatives.

A key proposal from Vietnam during the meeting was for Russia to facilitate the training of its athletes in Russia, particularly in boxing for the years 2024 and 2025, and in athletics in 2025. This initiative aims to enhance the skill sets and performance of Vietnamese athletes through access to Russia’s advanced sports training infrastructure and expertise.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting the participation of their athletes in each other’s sporting events, further enhancing the spirit of mutual cooperation. They also pledged to continue supporting each other within international sports organizations and global sports forums.

Minister Degtyarev praised the active engagement of Vietnamese athletes in tournaments organized in Russia, highlighting the positive impact of such interactions on both nations’ sporting communities. In response, Minister Hùng congratulated Russia on its significant achievements in sports, underscoring the value of shared success and collaboration.

The signing of this MOU marks a promising development in Vietnam-Russia sports relations, setting the stage for deeper cooperation and mutual growth in the years to come.
