Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: President Lương Cường warmly welcomed Belarusian Minister of Defence Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich to Hanoi on Tuesday during the latter’s official visit to Vietnam and participation in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024.

During their meeting, President Cường highlighted the deep traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus, nurtured over generations by the leaders and people of both nations. He expressed gratitude for the sincere and effective assistance provided by the Soviet Union, including Belarus, during Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and reunification.

The President commended the steady growth in Vietnam-Belarus relations, emphasizing progress in political and diplomatic ties that have laid a strong foundation for collaboration in diverse areas such as defence, security, economy, trade, investment, education, science and technology, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Belarusian Minister Khrenin echoed these sentiments, noting the flourishing cooperation between the two countries across all fields despite geographical distance. He acknowledged the shared stances of Vietnam and Belarus on numerous international and regional issues, particularly their commitment to a multipolar world order that serves their peoples’ interests.

Minister Khrenin also praised Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements, which have elevated the country’s international standing and improved the quality of life for its citizens. He affirmed Belarus’s prioritization of Vietnam in its Asia-Pacific foreign policy and expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Updating President Cường on his talks with Defence Minister Phan Văn Giang, Khrenin reported significant progress in defence cooperation, which has enhanced the professionalism and readiness of both militaries. He expressed optimism that his visit would usher in a new phase of defence collaboration, creating further opportunities for mutual development.

President Cường lauded the outcomes of the defence ministers’ discussions and urged both nations to continue promoting bilateral defence cooperation. He emphasized the importance of increasing delegation exchanges, maintaining effective operational mechanisms, and advancing partnerships in training, military medicine, and military history.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to deepening their traditional friendship and advancing multifaceted cooperation, contributing to regional peace and stability.
