Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese State President Lương Cường on Wednesday welcomed Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, who is in Hanoi for an official visit and to attend the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit.

During the meeting, President Cường expressed confidence that Prime Minister Abiy’s visit would usher in a new era of more substantive and effective cooperation between the two countries. He commended Ethiopia as the oldest independent nation in Africa and lauded its socio-economic accomplishments, describing it as a model of economic growth and the largest economy in East Africa with an increasingly prominent international profile.

Sharing insights on Vietnam’s development journey, President Cường highlighted the country’s transformation from a war-torn past to becoming the world’s 32nd largest economy and maintaining diplomatic ties with 194 nations. He reiterated Vietnam’s vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country with a modern industrial base by 2030, and a high-income, developed nation by 2045.

Prime Minister Abiy, in turn, expressed appreciation for Việt Nam’s long-standing friendship and support, noting the country’s impressive progress in socio-economic development and its growing stature in international affairs. He affirmed that his visit reflects Ethiopia’s strong commitment to expanding multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.

To fully capitalize on the potential of both nations, the two leaders agreed to enhance the exchange of high-level delegations across all channels and to effectively implement existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

President Cường urged relevant agencies of both countries to actively negotiate and expedite the signing of agreements to complete a legal framework for cooperation, especially in key areas such as agriculture, mining, electronics, telecommunications, and digital transformation.

Prime Minister Abiy acknowledged Vietnam’s agricultural expertise and expressed hope that Ethiopia could benefit from Vietnamese experience and support to strengthen its food security and promote sustainable agricultural development.

President Cường also welcomed the planned launch of a direct flight route by Ethiopian Airlines connecting Addis Ababa and Hanoi this July, describing it as a significant step in enhancing connectivity and fostering people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration and provide mutual support at multilateral platforms, particularly within the United Nations and among developing countries. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation through regional organizations such as ASEAN and the African Union.

On this occasion, President Cường extended an invitation to Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie to pay an official visit to Vietnam, which Prime Minister Abiy agreed to convey.
