Turkmenistan and Japan Sign Landmark Agreements to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A series of landmark bilateral agreements were signed during the official visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan, signaling a significant strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, Turkmenistan’s official media reported on Tuesday.
The agreements, comprising framework accords, memoranda of understanding, and supplementary arrangements, span a wide range of sectors, including energy, the chemical industry, construction, and education.
Among the key outcomes of the visit was the signing of a Framework Agreement between the State Concern Türkmenhimiýa and a consortium of Japanese and Turkish companies, including Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Itochu Corporation, and Rönesans Endüstri Tesisleri. The agreement outlines plans for the design and construction of a second gas-to-gasoline plant in Ahal velayat, aimed at expanding Turkmenistan’s capacity to convert natural gas into high-value liquid fuels.
In addition, agreements were signed for the construction of a new urea plant in Kiyanly, as well as for the major overhaul of the existing Kiyanly polymer plant. These projects will involve the participation of Japanese industrial giants Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Toyo Engineering Corporation, reflecting continued interest in Turkmenistan’s petrochemical sector.
The visit also saw the conclusion of memorandums of understanding and cooperation between various Turkmen and Japanese institutions. These included partnerships between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Engineering and Technology University, aimed at enhancing collaboration in education and technological innovation.
According to official sources, the newly signed agreements are expected to significantly deepen bilateral ties, fostering joint initiatives in key sectors such as energy, innovation, industrial development, and education.
The outcomes of the visit mark a continued commitment by both nations to advancing strategic cooperation and leveraging their respective strengths for mutual benefit.
