Vietnam PM Proposes ‘Talented, Creative and Dedicated Women’ Award to Honour Women’s Contributions

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Friday proposed the establishment of a new award titled “Talented, Creative and Dedicated Women” to further recognise the significant contributions of Vietnamese women to national development.
The proposal was made during a meeting with female leaders and managers from central agencies held at the Government Headquarters to commemorate the 116th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8). During the event, the prime minister also presented the 2025 Kovalevskaia Award, one of Vietnam’s most prestigious honors for female scientists.
Named after the renowned 19th-century Russian mathematician Sophia Kovalevskaia, the award has recognised 23 collectives and 58 female scientists since its launch in 1985 for their outstanding research achievements and practical scientific contributions.
This year’s collective award was granted to a group of female scientists from Hà Nội University of Science and Technology for their research on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products.
The individual award went to Prof. Dr. Trần Thị Việt Nga, Director of the Việt Nam–Japan Institute of Advanced Technology and senior lecturer at Hà Nội University of Civil Engineering, for her research related to environmental protection, energy security and climate change adaptation.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Chính extended his greetings to Vietnamese women and girls, praising their enduring contributions throughout the nation’s history.
He noted that Vietnam’s history is a powerful story of patriotism, resilience and self-reliance, in which women have played an indispensable role through their sacrifices, compassion and determination.
Building on that legacy, he said the current generation of Vietnamese women continues to overcome social barriers and challenges while working creatively and dedicating themselves to national development.
The prime minister emphasized that women are not only the keepers of family happiness but also key contributors to the country’s economic growth, innovation and social progress.
He reaffirmed that women represent an important internal resource for Vietnam’s transformation and development, calling for stronger policies to support the advancement of female leaders and managers at all levels.
Chính also stressed the need to encourage women’s greater participation in scientific research, innovation, digital transformation and the green transition, areas considered vital for Vietnam’s future development.
In addition, he urged the Vietnam Women’s Union to consider establishing more awards to honour young female scientists, including those working in the social sciences and humanities.
Noting that Vietnam celebrates both International Women’s Day on March 8 and Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20, the prime minister pointed out that while the Kovalevskaia Award is presented in March, no specific award currently marks the October celebration.
He therefore proposed launching the “Talented, Creative and Dedicated Women” award, named after Nguyễn Thị Thập, a former Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly and former President of the Vietnam Women’s Union who led the historic “Three Responsibilities” movement and was honoured with the Gold Star Order and the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother.
The prime minister concluded by calling on Vietnamese women to continue promoting their vital role in society, helping shape the image of modern Vietnamese women who preserve tradition, lead innovation, master knowledge, confidently integrate into the world and contribute to the nation’s future prosperity.
