Vietnamese Communities in Japan and Canada Rally Support for Typhoon Yagi Victims
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese communities in Japan and Canada have mobilized significant support for those affected by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.
On September 20, the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy, announced that they had successfully raised over VNĐ3.6 billion (US$146,000) to assist the victims of the devastating typhoon. At a campaign review event, Nguyễn Đức Minh, Chargé d’Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, expressed deep gratitude for the contributions, noting that the solidarity and tradition of sharing demonstrated by overseas Vietnamese highlighted their sense of responsibility and connection to their homeland.
Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, added that both individuals and organizations showed considerable interest in the relief efforts. He also noted that representatives from Vietnamese associations in Japan had directly participated in relief activities in Vietnam’s affected regions.
Meanwhile, in Canada, the Vietnamese Embassy marked the 79th National Day on September 20 by launching its own campaign to support Typhoon Yagi victims. At the event, Rob Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced Canada’s donation of CA$560,000 (over US$412,000) to assist people in Vietnam’s northern regions in recovering from the storm’s damage.
Additionally, the Vietnamese community in Canada has collectively raised CA$3,800 and VNĐ193 million, while the Vietnam-Canada Business Association pledged CA$10,000. The association’s Vancouver chapter is also organizing further fundraising efforts.
These collective contributions reflect the strong sense of unity and international support for those impacted by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.
