Vietnamese PM Meets Xi Jinping on the Sidelines of Expanded BRICS Summit

Kazan, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping during the expanded BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Vietnam and China.

Congratulating China on its historic achievements over the past 75 years, PM Chính affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy to prioritize its relationship with China. He noted that fostering ties with China is a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy. He also praised China’s significant contributions to the BRICS mechanism and expressed Vietnam’s willingness to collaborate with BRICS members to promote the role of developing countries in addressing global peace and development challenges.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Vietnamese Prime Minister lauded the strong ties between the two countries, which continue to advance, entering a new phase aimed at building a “Việt Nam–China community with a shared future” under the framework of the “six major goals.” Chính called for continued high-level exchanges and practical cooperation, particularly in infrastructure projects, including the construction of three standard-gauge railways connecting Lào Cai, Hà Nội, Hải Phòng, Lạng Sơn, and Móng Cái to boost economic connectivity between the two nations.

The Vietnamese leader also proposed coordinated efforts to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Year of Việt Nam-China Humanistic Exchange in 2025.

In response, President Xi Jinping congratulated Vietnam’s recent achievements and expressed his desire to deepen strategic discussions and cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of further developing the Việt Nam–China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in accordance with the “four-good spirit” and pledged to enhance transportation connectivity to bolster economic ties.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the relationship between their nations, highlighting the shared future that holds strategic significance for the region.
