Vietnamese President Attends Lunar New Year Ceremony at Nguyen Trai Memorial Site

Lunar New Year Ceremony

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: On February 18, Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong paid tribute to the national hero and world cultural eminent personality, Nguyễn Trãi, by offering incense and participating in the Lunar New Year pen-brush opening ceremony at the memorial area dedicated to Nguyễn Trãi in Nhị Khê commune, located in Hanoi’s outlying district of Thường Tín.

Nguyễn Trãi, known by his pen name Ức Trai, was born in 1380 in Chí Ngãi commune, Chí Linh district, Hải Dương province. Renowned for his role in the resistance war against the Ming invaders, Nguyễn Trãi played a pivotal role in the nation’s victories. Beyond his military contributions, he was a prolific literary figure, producing numerous poems and the monumental work “Bình Ngô Đại Cáo” (Great Proclamation upon the Pacification of the Wu), considered one of the earliest declarations of independence in Vietnam’s history.

Recognizing his invaluable contributions, UNESCO honored Nguyễn Trãi on his 600th birth anniversary in 1980, acknowledging him as a world cultural eminent personality, an eminent military strategist, and a talented politician.

The memorial site dedicated to Nguyễn Trãi, whose construction commenced on November 14, 2022, has seen significant progress, with nearly all major components nearing completion. The ceremony at the site also marked a longstanding cultural tradition in Thường Tín, encouraging local officials, Party members, and citizens to prioritize education, strive in labor, and boost production. The first strokes of writing in the Lunar New Year carry wishes for goodness, luck, and happiness.

In addition to the memorial ceremony, President Thưởng visited workers involved in the construction of Ring Road No. 4 in the Hanoi Capital Region in the morning on the same day. The president’s presence at these events underscores the importance of commemorating historical figures and fostering cultural traditions that contribute to the nation’s identity and development.
