Western Azerbaijan Community Urges Belgian Government to Uphold Right of Return for Expelled Azerbaijanis

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Western Azerbaijan Community has condemned the newly signed coalition agreement in Belgium, which was formed on February 1, 2025, after a seven-month political crisis. According to the statement released by the community, the agreement includes provisions that are seen as discriminatory and unconstructive toward Azerbaijan and its citizens.

The statement specifically highlights the inclusion of terms such as “Nagorno-Karabakh” in the agreement, which the community believes undermines Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Additionally, the agreement addresses the return of Armenians who emigrated from Azerbaijan, but it notably omits any mention of the return of Azerbaijanis forcibly expelled from Armenia, which the community views as an act of ethnic and religious discrimination.

The Western Azerbaijan Community urged that instead of focusing on matters unrelated to Belgium, such as the rights of individuals displaced from Azerbaijan and Armenia, Belgian political parties should prioritize addressing their country’s internal political crisis. They also called on the newly formed Belgian government to end discrimination against Azerbaijanis and to respect their right of return.

The community’s statement emphasized the importance of Belgium’s adherence to international law, urging the Belgian government to take steps that promote peace in the region and refrain from actions that may hinder diplomatic progress.
