Xi Jinping and Hun Sen Discuss Strengthening China-Cambodia Ties in Beijing
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Tuesday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China, held talks with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Senate President, in Beijing.
Xi emphasized China’s strong commitment to its relationship with Cambodia, particularly within its neighborhood diplomacy, and expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Cambodia to establish a high-quality, high-level, and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era. He called on both sides to continue to uphold mutual support and reinforce the iron-clad friendship between the two nations.
China, Xi affirmed, will continue to support Cambodia in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests. He also stressed the importance of deepening mutual learning and exchanges, and vowed to assist Cambodia in exploring a development path tailored to its national conditions.
Highlighting the potential for further cooperation, Xi urged both countries to seize the opportunity to create a new win-win partnership. He outlined plans to expand the “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework and formulate the cooperation plan for the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor.” These efforts, he noted, will complement the synergies between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy.
Xi concluded by reaffirming China and Cambodia’s shared commitment to global peace, development, and progress, underscoring that China will continue to support Cambodia in playing a larger role in international and regional affairs. He reiterated the importance of strengthening the influence of the Global South and opposing any efforts by external forces to reintroduce Cold War mentalities into the region.
