Xi Jinping Mourns Passing of Vietnamese Leader Nguyen Phu Trong
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Saturday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China, visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Beijing to express condolences over the death of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.
In his tribute, Xi praised Nguyen Phu Trong as a dedicated Marxist and a prominent leader who committed himself fully to the CPV, the Vietnamese people, and the cause of socialism in Vietnam. He noted that Nguyen had earned profound respect and admiration from the party, military, and citizens of Vietnam.
Reflecting on their decade-long relationship, Xi recalled the close contact and camaraderie he shared with Nguyen Phu Trong, highlighting their joint announcement last year elevating bilateral relations to a China-Vietnam community with a shared future—a significant milestone in their diplomatic ties.
Xi expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Nguyen Phu Trong, emphasizing that his passing has deprived both nations of a crucial advocate for their bilateral relationship and the cause of socialism. He affirmed that Nguyen’s substantial contributions to the relationship between the two parties and countries, as well as to the global socialist movement, will be long remembered.
Xi assured that the CPC and the Chinese government will continue to support the CPV in its efforts to lead the Vietnamese people in advancing socialism tailored to Vietnam’s unique conditions. He expressed confidence that under the CPV Central Committee’s leadership, Vietnam will transform grief into strength and achieve further progress in its development.
The visit by Xi Jinping and the condolence message from the CPC Central Committee underscore the importance China places on its relationship with Vietnam, as noted by Vietnamese Ambassador to China, Pham Sao Mai. The ambassador expressed gratitude for Xi’s personal tribute and reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to upholding Nguyen Phu Trong’s legacy by strengthening the strategic partnership with China and advancing their shared future goals.
Nguyen Phu Trong’s dedication to fostering relations with China and his significant contributions to enhancing bilateral friendship were highlighted by the ambassador, who affirmed Vietnam’s resolve to continue prioritizing and developing this crucial relationship.
