Reykjavik, The Gulf Observer: The Icelandic edition of the first volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” was released on Tuesday at a ceremony held at Harpa Conference Center in capital Reykjavik.

Lauding the release, Chinese and Icelandic officials at the event expressed hope that the book will enhance mutual understanding between the two countries.

Former Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson recalled his interaction with Chinese President Xi Jinping and welcomed the Icelandic edition of the book during his speech at the event. He said the book’s publication in different languages – so far 37 – was akin to a dialogue between China and the rest world.

The Icelandic edition will further accelerate the mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between China and Iceland, said Grímsson, adding that understanding China is crucial to the development of the world nowadays and in the future.

Noting that the book includes China’s proposal of building a community with a shared future for mankind and a better world, Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Publishing Group, said the publication of the Icelandic version of the book will help build a bridge of understanding for mutual learning between Chinese and Icelandic civilizations.

The 18-chapter first volume of the book gathers 79 speeches, talks, interviews, instructions and correspondence made by President Xi from November 15, 2012 to June 13, 2014. It offers insights into his thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Chinese dream and other important concepts.
