Xizang Achieves 9 percent GDP Growth in 2023

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: In 2023, the Xizang Autonomous Region in southwest China witnessed a remarkable 9 percent growth in its gross domestic product (GDP), reaching an estimated 230 billion yuan (approximately 32.38 billion U.S. dollars). Yan Jinhai, the chairman of the regional government, shared this economic achievement during the government work report presented at the second plenary session of the 12th People’s Congress of the Xizang Autonomous Region on Sunday.

Notably, the per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents in the region exceeded 50,000 yuan and 20,000 yuan, respectively, in 2023, marking a notable increase of about 6.5% and 10% compared to the previous year. Looking ahead, the region has set a GDP growth target of around 8% for the year 2024, indicating a commitment to sustained economic development.”
