Zelensky Reaffirms Readiness to Sign Minerals Deal with the United States

London, The Gulf Observer: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed on Sunday that Ukraine is prepared to sign a minerals deal with the United States, emphasizing his country’s constructive stance on the agreement. Speaking to reporters at London’s Stansted Airport, Zelensky stated, “If we agreed to sign the minerals deal, we’re ready to sign it,” underlining Ukraine’s commitment to following through on prior negotiations.
Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that the minerals deal could not be finalized without a peace agreement with Russia. However, Zelensky made it clear that the deal is ready for the relevant minister’s signature, suggesting that Ukraine remains prepared to proceed with the arrangement.
The discussion also touched on recent comments by French President Emmanuel Macron, who proposed a potential one-month truce between Russia and Ukraine, aimed at halting hostilities in air and sea operations. When asked about Macron’s proposal, Zelensky responded, “I’m aware of everything.”
Zelensky was also questioned about his previous tense exchange with US President Donald Trump at the White House, particularly concerning territorial concessions. The Ukrainian leader did not address the question directly but emphasized that his main priority is ensuring that Ukraine’s position is heard. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding, stating, “Red lines” are not driven by emotion but reflect the realities that must be acknowledged in diplomatic negotiations.
As Ukraine continues to navigate the complexities of international relations, Zelensky’s remarks indicate a firm stance on maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty while remaining open to dialogue on global agreements.
