Zelenskyy meets Prime Minister of Qatar in Kyiv
Kyiv, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Ukraine HE Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani at the presidential palace in Kyiv on Friday.
At the outset of the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed the greetings of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wishes of good health and wellbeing to HE President of Ukraine and for peace and stability to friendly Ukrainian people.
For his part, HE the Ukrainian President entrusted HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs with his greetings and wishes of wellness and happiness to HH the Amir, and to the Qatari people for further development and growth.
During the meeting, the two sides touches on the two countries’ bilateral cooperation relations and discussed the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and ways to solve it peacefully. They also exchanged viewpoints on a host of regional and international issues of common concern.
HE the Ukrainian President expressed his thanks to the State of Qatar for its position on the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, affirming his keenness on cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic field.
The visit to Ukraine comes in critical global circumstances, with the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, he said, pointing that he had in-depth talks with the Ukrainian President on the political and humanitarian dimensions of the crises.
During the meeting, the position of Qatar was reiterated on importance of respecting sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, he added, underlining the need to adhere to the Charter of the United Nations and the established principles of international law, including the obligation to settle international disputes by peaceful means. He called for refraining from the threat or use of force, and condemned that.
He added that the meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine provided an opportunity to discuss the repercussions of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to affirm Qatar’s readiness to contribute to any international and regional effort to reach a peaceful and immediate solution to the crisis. It is certain that the only way to succeed in this endeavour is to keep all communication channels open, he stressed.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs asserted, in this context, that stopping the fighting and ensuring the protection of civilians is among the most important priorities of Qatar, stressing that Qatar’s positions are consistent regarding respect for international law and respect for the world order.
He said resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis requires continuous and intensive cooperation, appreciating the regional and international efforts that would reduce escalation.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Ukraine said the Qatari aid will be allocated to rebuilding medical care, education and demining, expressing Ukraine’s thanks to Qatar for allocating scholarships to Ukrainian students in its universities.
He said the visit of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Ukraine is important and means a lot to his country.
