China Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts for Mountain Torrents

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Sunday evening, China’s Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued orange and yellow alerts, the second and third tier of warnings, for potential mountain torrents. These alerts are in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday.

An orange alert, indicating a high likelihood of mountain torrents, was issued for certain areas in Liaoning and Heilongjiang. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for parts of Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Xizang.

Local authorities are advised to strengthen real-time monitoring and flood warning procedures and to prepare evacuation measures as necessary.

The National Meteorological Center also renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms in regions including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Sichuan, and Yunnan. From Sunday evening to Monday evening, heavy rain is expected to impact these areas as well as Shandong, Henan, and Chongqing. Some regions may experience up to 180 millimeters of rainfall within 24 hours.

China’s weather-warning system comprises four tiers, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
