Azerbaijan Pledges Support for Vietnam’s Recovery from Devastating Typhoon Yagi

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has announced its commitment to assist Vietnam in recovering from the severe aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, which struck northern provinces in early September, causing widespread destruction. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hanoi, Shovgi Mehdizade, stated via X (formerly Twitter) that Azerbaijan, through the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will play a key role in recovery efforts, including the restoration of a school in the affected areas, NHC reports.

Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Vietnam in 30 years, caused extensive damage estimated at 40 trillion dong (over $1.63 billion). The disaster claimed hundreds of lives, left nearly 2,000 people injured, and disrupted industrial production across multiple northern provinces. Additionally, over 235,000 homes were damaged, and 300,000 hectares of rice and cash crops were flooded, further aggravating the situation for the local population.

Azerbaijan’s support will be crucial in the long-term recovery process, particularly in rebuilding essential infrastructure, as Vietnam grapples with the aftermath of this catastrophic event.
