Sharjah Poetry House Hosts Evening Celebrating Arab Poets and Cultural Exchange
Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: The Poetry House in Sharjah hosted a poetry evening featuring prominent poets from Egypt, Jordan, Sudan and Oman, bringing together literary figures, critics, students and poetry enthusiasts in celebration of Arabic poetry and cultural exchange.
Held on Tuesday, August 25, the event featured Egyptian poet Dr. Jaafar Ahmed Hamdy, Jordanian poet Hassan Jalanbo, Sudanese poet Dr. Manahil Fathi and Omani poet Ibrahim Al Salmi. The gathering was attended by Mohammed Abdullah Al Breiki, director of the Poetry House, alongside a large audience of critics, poets, poetry enthusiasts and members of the Al Qasimia University community.
The evening was moderated by Dr. Bahaa Al Din Dandis of Al Qasimia University, who highlighted Sharjah’s prominent role in promoting literature, poetry and cultural dialogue.
In his opening remarks, Dandis emphasized the importance of preserving poetry and honouring poets, describing Sharjah as a cultural centre where literature, art and creativity serve as bridges between different parts of the world.
He also expressed appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continued support for culture, literature and the Arabic language. He said Sharjah had developed into a centre of knowledge and a meeting place for creative minds.
The poetry gathering provided a platform for participating poets to present their literary works and engage with audiences interested in Arabic poetry and contemporary cultural expression.
At the conclusion of the event, Al Breiki honoured the participating poets as well as the event’s moderator in recognition of their contribution to the literary gathering.
The event reaffirmed Sharjah’s continued efforts to promote poetry, Arabic literature and cultural dialogue while providing opportunities for poets from across the Arab world to connect with audiences and fellow literary figures.
