President Prabowo Calls for Strengthening Regional Solidarity at APEC Leaders’ Dialogue
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the critical role of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in fostering regional solidarity and collaboration while working toward an inclusive future for all. His remarks were made during the APEC Leaders Informal Dialogue with Guest session in Lima, Peru, on Friday, November 15.
During his speech, President Prabowo outlined three key strategies that APEC should pursue to achieve a more inclusive and resilient future. First, he stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in clean energy transition and developing resilient infrastructure to combat the ongoing climate crisis.
“We are facing climate change, and many of our islands are threatened by rising sea levels. We are working with many other countries and invited them to our collective economic activities,” President Prabowo stated, according to the Presidential Secretariat’s written statement.
The second strategy proposed by President Prabowo was to make APEC a “bridge to innovation” by addressing the technology gap and promoting technology transfer among member economies. This, he said, would help drive inclusive digital transformation across the region. “We believe that Asia-Pacific will lead digital transformation and inclusivity,” he emphasized.
In addition, the president highlighted the importance of making APEC a “bridge to greater inclusion,” ensuring that all individuals and groups benefit from global development. President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for efforts to improve governance and eradicate poverty and corruption in the region.
“Indonesia supports APEC priorities on these aspects,” he remarked.
Concluding his address, President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to free trade, continuity, and inclusiveness, underscoring that Indonesia’s participation in APEC reflects its dedication to fostering an innovative, inclusive, and resilient future for all.
President Prabowo has been in Peru since Wednesday, November 13, to attend the 2024 APEC Summit and its related events. His next destination will be Brazil, where he will attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19, 2024.
